No one can doubt that recent advances in AI technology are already nurturing the next disruptive revolution, which will be on a similar scale to that of the emergence of the Internet in the late 1990s.
In the 1960s Goordon Moore observed that the capacity of silicon chips was doubling and the price halving every 18 months – this became known as “Moore’s Law”. If we apply this to the capability of AI models, especially the Large Language Models, such as GPT, Claude and Deep Think the industry consensus is that the “Moore’s Law” for AI is roughly 7 months.
Whether this is sustainable is still unknown, but even at current capabilities, some level of disruption is inevitable.
AI is not going away, it will change the business models of IT development and this disruption will happen quickly. There are significant challenges in terms of ethics, privacy and intellectual property rights and ownership

The Four Key Challenges
Use clear subheaders and add a lead sentence for each. Consider reordering for narrative flow — culture first, then technical/data, then skills.
Cultural Resistance and Change Management
Teams may fear that AI will replace them or devalue their roles. Resistance stems from uncertainty, not just tools.
Data Quality and Availability
AI thrives on clean, relevant data. Most development teams are not designed with data discipline in mind.
Skill Gaps and Training Needs
AI isn’t plug-and-play. Agile teams must grow new muscles in areas like data science, model interpretation, and prompt engineering.
Integration with Existing Systems
AI tools must work within existing workflows and toolchains. Legacy systems can become barriers without thoughtful planning.
The first steps must be taken now, start a small implementation with a single team – they need to work out what tools they should use and how these tools can be used safely, ensuring privacy is maintained. Most of the vendors are now offering ‘AI enhanced etc’ – but how will these work in your organisation?
In Summary
Act now! Start to evaluate and use the tools available now – and apply Moore’s Law – if their capability doubles every 7 months, what does to the future look like in 1,2,5 years?
The drive must come from your own people, they know your business and your customers and are best placed to take your business forward – empower them to explore AI and apply it in a controlled manner ensuring you learn.
